Preinstallation Conditions
Installation requires that you own a licensed copy of the Microsoft Windows XP Home or Professional Installation CD.
Before proceeding with the installation of the Microsoft Windows XP Operating System, verify that you have completed the following tasks:

Also, ensure that you have installed all of the original, factory-installed driver updates (section C), specifically, the Sony Shared Library update is required to use your Recovery Media kit, after an installation of the Microsoft Windows XP Operating System.
Certain VAIO applications require more than one software component to be installed from the Recovery Media in order to function correctly. Please refer to the table in Section D, VAIO Application Dependencies.
To install applications, follow the steps below:
- Boot the Microsoft Windows XP Operating System.
- Insert Disc 1 of your Recovery Media set (created in Step 1). The VAIO Application Recovery Wizard dialog will appear.
- Select the checkboxes next to the applications that you wish to recover, and click Next.
- Follow the prompts to proceed with installation of the selected software. Some software may require a restart. Allow the system to restart before proceeding with installation of other software.
- At the 'Application Recovery Complete' dialog, click Finish.
If you receive any errors during installation or use of the software, check the table in Section D, VAIO Application Dependencies, for any software components that you may have forgotten to install.
